Newly released video of the space shuttle Challenger disaster: It was 24 years ago, I was in 5th grade, but I remember it like it was yesterday. School was stopped immediately and they wheeled out televisions in every classroom for us to watch the news footage. It’s great that this video has been released, but holy crap, how do you tuck something that away for two decades???

I was teaching Fifth Grade then in Green Bay, WI, and had my class in the library watching the shuttle launch, and this disaster unfolded before our eyes. I had absolutely no clue what to say after that.

I was in 7th grade and home sick from school that day. I lived in Daytona Beach, about 60 miles north of Cape Canaveral, and went in the front yard to watch.
I ran back into the house to tell my grandfather that something went wrong and we turned on the TV.
One of those things you never forget …

if they had footage like that in dallas 1963, we would know EXACTLY what happened! we could also prove conclusively the existence of the loch ness monster and bigfoot!
good thing our government kept this footage secret all these years!

The goverment didn’t keep it secret, the guy who recorded the footage had kept it secret and handed it out a week before he died :)

People have argued they were never healthy to begin with, but the difference here is major. The same is going to happen to every meatspace product that transitions to digital.
