Barack Obama Silkscreen Poster by Date Farmers

No matter what your political leanings are, today is a special day. Above is my favorite poster from the presidential campaign. It was beautifully illustrated and silkscreened by The Date Farmers to help get out the vote in Texas… complete with authentic Mexican Revolution motif. I believe this is the only known depiction of Barack Obama where he looks reasonably badass.

Really, really beautiful.

The Date Farmers do some amazing work, and would expect nothing less form them.

And yes, he does look quite “badass”.

  5. Man,

I didn’t know about The Date Farmers.

When I first read this post, I thought that this poster was done by some actual migrant workers, down there on the Texas date farms.

    Still cool though.

    Yo Lo Quiero!

Man, this poster is truly bad ass. It looks as if it were screened on an old rusty sign.

Anyone have a link to a comprehensive gallery or portfolio site for The Date Farmers?

What I really like about the poster is it doesn’t look like it has been anywhere near a computer! It has a human warmth to it.

Brilliant to see Obama become president yesterday. I thought his description of people as a ‘patchwork’ of cultures / appearances was appropriate. Huge job ahead and he needs the American people behind him. good man.

  9. That’s a sweet poster – and indeed it does make him look pretty tough. I’m dated on my Espanol – can anyone please translate?
I like the recent Spider-man comic of spidey taking a pic of Obama :)

What an outstanding poster. It is really interesting on a lot of levels. It is so interesting to see how the artist chose to depict Obama in the simplest form. This goes along with the idea that this was made so simplistically, but it is just as effective as the official campaign posters that were distributed by the Obama camp. I think the most valuable part of looking at this poster is seeing that it graphics don’t have to be overdone and glossy to look beautiful and have a profound effect on the viewer. It worked apparently, because he got elected, so I think these Date farmers should probably open up a studio, and make some cash off their skills.

  14. Not related to the poster, nor Obama (although I voted for him). Are the dates showing wrong for everyone, or is it just me? Cheers!

  15. It is just me, I am an utter (correct spelling?) idiot. I will carry on. :)

  16. Ask and you shall receive! The Date Farmers. Funny enough it is http://www.thedatefarmers.com. Maybe they just put up their website?

Oh and here is the only other depiction of Barack in all of his badassness.

Multitasking, in short, is not only not thinking, it impairs your ability to think.Thinking means concentrating on one thing long enough to develop an idea about it. Not learning other people’s ideas, or memorizing a body of information…

Takes a little while to get going, but overall a great article about the virtues of seeking solitude from distractions in order to develop your own original thoughts.

This recently unearthed video of Steve Jobs at work during the early days of NeXT is a remarkable look inside how he ran meetings, how he created culture at his startups, and how others — like Joanna Hoffman around the 11 minute mark — called B.S. on his reality distortion field. It’s also remarkable in that it reveals Jobs to be a man who picks carrots in pressed work shirts.
