Newsvine on TV Tonight

Many apologies for the self-promotion, but I’m going to be on the KCTS show “Serious Money” tonight talking about Newsvine and the changing landscape of the journalism world. If you have access to KCTS, it’s going to be on at 8pm Pacific Time. Serious Money is in its 17th season and has hosted such CEOs as Jack Welch of GE, Howard Schultz of Starbucks, and Jonathan Klein of Getty. Economist extraordinaire and Colonial era dead-ringer Louis Rukeyser has also appeared. After the airing, the show should also be available on KCTS’ Streaming Video page, I believe.

I wore make-up too, so let the jokes begin…

    Mike wearing makup joke #1

“Which woman would you most like to be? Mike Davidson!”

Looking forward to the broadcast tonight.

  2. Dan Carson says:

Awesome, I’m going to do my best to check this out tonight. Let’s see how nerdy I can sound when my friends ask why I’m glued to the tv on a friday night and I say, “You don’t understand, he started a website. On the internet!” Can’t wait!

  3. I always thought your cheeks were rosy enough. Posh with the make-up.

  4. Awesome. Unfortunately I’m not gigon to be at home tonight to watch. I will how ever hoist a Tito’s and Tonic for you.

Great job Mike and all the people at Newsvine.

  5. Rob Toole says:

When you said you wore makeup…. did you mean more than you usually wear?

You said “let the jokes begin.”

Seriously, congrats on the high profile exposure…. go Newsvine!

  6. kartooner says:

Man, how’d they convince you to wear makeup?

  7. Mike D. says:

Okay, you want to know the scary thing? I actually walked back to the Newsvine headquarters with the makeup still on. Washed it off as soon as I got back though. Can’t provide that sort of ammunition to the Newsvine crew. I’d never hear the end of it.

On the bright side, there was a beautiful PR girl I met in the green room while waiting to do the interview. Suddenly I think Newsvine might need a PR rep. :)

  8. This is great. For folks that are not located in the NW are you going to put it up on YouTube?

  9. Couldn’t notice the make up on my old TV, but the dress was nice!

    Can you post a clip?

  10. Dan Carson says:

I thought the interview was great, by the way. Trying to explain to my girlfriend that I in fact got to be a beta tester for what you were talking about! “Oh wow, that’s great Dan.” Yeah… Good job though, and nice glasses.

  11. Beautiful PR Rep says:

Just to let you know Mike, I shaved my beard and wore make up that night too! :)

(Editor’s Note: Haha. Very funny. I’d bet a few dollars that you’re posting from somewhere in Missouri though. :) )

  12. Hey Mike,

Don’t see you in any of the episodes on KCTS’ Streaming Video page, is it on there?

  13. Looks like they have three or four more episodes to put online before they get to Mike’s one.

  14. Britney says:

I have had some trouble finding it as well a follow up post to the link would be just awsome would love to see you on t.v.

  15. Yeah, tell em to get that episode up already ;)

  16. I can’t wait to see this when it’s up and running….Update the article when you got some streaming video!

Solitude and Leadership:

Multitasking, in short, is not only not thinking, it impairs your ability to think.Thinking means concentrating on one thing long enough to develop an idea about it. Not learning other people’s ideas, or memorizing a body of information…

Takes a little while to get going, but overall a great article about the virtues of seeking solitude from distractions in order to develop your own original thoughts.

If there is a state of the art of end-of-life care, it is this: death with dignity.

This is the most concise, easily understood article on the perils of end-of-like care in the United States I’ve ever read. It is a must-read, and frankly, a must-heed, in my opinion. (via kottke)

This recently unearthed video of Steve Jobs at work during the early days of NeXT is a remarkable look inside how he ran meetings, how he created culture at his startups, and how others — like Joanna Hoffman around the 11 minute mark — called B.S. on his reality distortion field. It’s also remarkable in that it reveals Jobs to be a man who picks carrots in pressed work shirts.

BuiltWith: Web Technology Usage Statistics:

Sometimes when you are deciding on technologies to use on a new site (e.g. jQuery vs. YUI or MS SQL vs. MySQL) it’s instructive to examine what everyone else is doing. BuiltWith has an incredible amount of trending data to help you out in that regard. Very, very cool.

Lots of good thinking here. No solutions, but a nice reminder that two-dimensional touch interfaces are transitional, not permanent.
